In most cases , if your current weight is more than 40 kilos more than your ideal weight , you could need surgery. The first thing you must do is consult your endocrinologist to plan a diet which meets your particular needs. Never go on a diet which is not supervised by your doctor.
There are people for whom diets are not effective or who suffer from serious diseases as a consequence of being overweight. In many of these cases , people are incapable of eating less and also of burning off the excess energy stored up by doing exercise. In these cases , surgery is a valid option.
Some people with diabetes type 2 may also choose the option of surgery , even if their weight is less than 40 kilos above the ideal.
You may think that you are too unwell to undergo an operation of this type , due to the illnesses caused by obesity , but it is precisely in these cases that surgery is most effective.
Gastric by-pass by laparoscopy
Not all operations to cure obesity are the same. And although they all have in common the reduction in size of the stomach , they are not the same.
The technique employed by our team is the gastric by-pass by laparoscopy , with over 1,500 successful operations performed to date.
The gastric by-pass by laparoscopy is a reversible operation and remarkably low-risk , because it is performed without having to cut the patient open , as happens in a conventional operation.
What will happen to me after the operation ?
The patient is allowed home three days after the operation. The surgical drain is removed six days after the operation.in the first three months the patient will lose 40% of his or her excess weight , rising to 60 % over six months and between 80 and 85% after one year.
The majority of the illnesses associated with obesity will disappear and the patient's quality of life will become normal.
